YOUnique

confidence, happiness, inspiration Add comments

What makes you “younique”?  Sure, you have a unique retina and a unique finger print.  And your dental records are all your own.  You might even have your own personal file at the CIA, the KGB or Interpol.

But what makes you most unique is your experiences, thousands even millions of moments that nobody else has shared.  So many moments that have shaped who you are.  So many reactions that have programmed you how to process information and react now to any situation in your own special way.  So many lessons you have learned, even without realizing, that inspire you to achieve, to share, to act, to think and to do everything you do.

Keep those younique experiences coming.

LOVE

Is there anything more important than love?  Love is about caring for other people -unconditional caring.  When we love, we go out of our way to make things better.  We try hard not to hurt people.  We try to make sure as many people as possible are comfortable.  We try not to pollute the air others breathe.  We restrain our baser instincts.

War could never happen if we all loved.  It is a failure to love that creates war.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could stop war forever, just by loving?  Of course, your single decision to love won’t end war on its own.but it sure can brighten up your little corner of the world.

Why not start the week with an inspirational quote by Samuel Goldwyn that should make you feel happy:

When someone does something good, applaud! You will make two people
happy.

You are “best actor”…Congratualtaions!

From today’s Daily Dose of Happiness:

Bravo!  You have just been awarded best actor.  And best director.  And best original screenplay.  In fact, it’s a clean sweep.  You are the best of everything in this production you refer to simply and humbly as “my life”.

Yes, we each direct the most fascinating and complex production imaginable - our lives.  We write the script and choose the cast.  We set the stage and make the choices.  We pick out the costumes and makeup and edit the script.

Well done.  Bravo!

From our Daily Dose of Happiness ezine yesterday:

MENTORING

A couple years ago I reported the figures below, which I found on the Big Brothers / Big Sisters website.  A child with a mentor is:

- 80% more likely to finish high school
- 46% less likely to use drugs
- 27% less likely to use alcohol
- 52% less likely to skip school

The website also reported on numerous other happy benefits of mentoring, which really is an exercise in community-building at the micro level.  Mentoring is an investment not a cost.  It’s an investment in helping the mentored grow, and it is equally an investment in helping the mentor grow.

When we reach a hand out to help someone else, we lift two people with that one arm.  Talk about miracles!

A quick motivational quote to start your morning from William F. Scolavino:

“The height of your accomplishments will equal the depth of your convictions.”

Hold the sauce, save the planet

simplicity, musings Add comments

I read this interesting article on how to save the planet by eating leftovers.

So I wanted to offer a couple more ways that diet can help you save the planet.  First, stop eating meals with sauce.  Think about it.  As soon as you use sauce, you need a plate to hold the mess…er, I mean the sauce.  And you need forks and knives because sauce is, well, let’s just say it - sauce is messy.  If you ate the same meat and rice and veggies in a pita, a in fajita, on crackers or on bread, you could save the energy and water used to wash the dishes.

Imagine if just once a day, you could eat a meal with no fork, knife or plate.  That means 365 plates less to wash this year.  365 fewer forks to wash.  365 fewer knives to wash.

There are some added benefits, too.  For instance, lower costs from running the hot water and the dishwasher less frequently.  Less time spent washing dishes (Yay!!!).  Better health because, let’s face it, sauces rarely contain any real nutrition.  At best they are empty calories.  And if you are prone to clumsiness, fewer stains on your nice clothing.

So hold the sauce for the planet, for your wallet, for your health, for your good looks and out of pure laziness.

Inspirational quote on gratitude

I like this attitude…

People call me an optimist, but I’m really an appreciator….When I
was six years old and had scarlet fever, the first of the miracle
drugs, sulfanilamide, saved my life. I’m grateful for computers and
photocopiers…I appreciate where we’ve come from.

Stress Tip

You have heard “A place for everything and everything in its place.”  There
is nothing more stressful than losing something when you are already in a
rush.  Things like glasses.  Things like car keys.

Create a specific place for everything and then discipline yourself to put
it there every single time.  Imagine the stress you could avoid if you never
had to scurry around frantically looking for something so basic that you
really can’t manage without it.

Downtime for happiness

musings, tips, choices, happiness Add comments

What do you do with your free time?  Is it productive?  I don’t mean by “productive” whether it makes money or builds something.  Here is a checklist for your downtime activity:

- Does it get your heart rate pumping?
- Does it make you think in new ways?
- Does it improve the world?
- Does it deepen friendships?

If not, maybe it’s time to rethink how you spend your free time.
